888.com Turns a Blind Eye to Site Scraping by their Rogue Affiliate Webmasters
Date: Friday, April 28 @ 14:03:39 CDT
Topic: Online Gambling News

The Cassava Group foundations were built on Casino-on-Net online casino empire (acronym CON), now more commonly known as 888.com which is also a publically traded company. 888.com has come into the line of fire from many disgruntled casino webmasters over a practice known as site scraping.

What is site scraping?

Rogue webmasters; in this case rogue online casino webmaster affiliates of 888.com, use automated bots to crawl web sites of other webmasters and in essence steal their content. This content is then added to many thousands of automated compiled pages which the rogue casino webmaster affiliates sets up on literally hundreds of expired domains which they purchase. Not only does this present a major issue regarding content theft but more so it impacts on Search Engine listings. The owners of the original content get penalised because their legitimate content is now being used on literally thousands of web pages.

888.com online casino is brought into this fry because of the high number of rogue webmaster affiliates that are part of the 888.com affiliate program that are using these underhanded tactics. Once the rogue webmasters have these sites set-up they simply add a redirect which means that when a visitor lands on the page they are then automatically sent to 888.com online casino.

Unfortunately this infestation does not stop there. These rogue affiliate webmasters for 888.com also use other highly targeted keywords from other interest groups & or any keyword phrases that may be used on any search engine.

As an example your children maybe searching for a school project on the subject dinosaurs, your child clicks on a link thinking they are going to view information for their school project only to be put smack bang in the middle of an online casino.

The Cassava Group (888.com) have been contacted by many casino industry groups and also individual casino webmasters, expressing their disapproval of allowing such rogue practices to continue. However to date, Cassava Group (888.com) & or its representatives have done little to stop this despicable practice in its tracks. In fact it's as if they are happy to continue the status quo of turning a blind eye to these rogue affiliate webmasters that are pushing 888.com down unsuspecting adults and childrens throats alike.

Obviously there are many theories why The Cassava Group (888.com) are unwilling to take a serious stand on this outlaw behaviour. Some, and with good reason, feel that the Cassava Group (888.com) are putting profit before an ethical, acceptable moral & integrity driven stand point, which a company of this statue should be observing.

By their (Cassava Group's) continued stonewalling and buck passing stance to this highly volatile issue, one is left wondering if 888.com casino's CEO John Anderson who also is a current Member of the Representative Directors of eCogra is at all genuine or worse not inline with the majority that is eCogra.

The 888.com site scraping issue has far reaching implications, not only towards the online casino industry, but more so towards the general population that uses the internet on a daily basis. The Cassava Group implies on its site 888.com that it supports and actively encourages a pro active view towards safe and responsible gambling practices.

However, out of this issue and 888.com obvious unwillingness to take action against these rogue affiliate webmasters, one could assume that The Cassava Group holds little or no respect for others intellectual property rights & or the rights of others, especially children, to surf the web without being forced to view online casino content.

Wager2winUK has made the decission based on these events to place The Cassava Group and all its online casino properties and poker rooms on our Online Casino Warnings - Rogue Blacklisted Casinos report.

Editors Notes:

eCogra is an independently formed governing body which oversees both Microgaming™ casinos and 888.com. Membership is by a stringent set of duly applied guidelines of which each online casino must agree to. Over and above these requirements each online casino that applies for membership must first pass a securitisation of their complete business practises. eCogra is also said to fosters due diligence to safe and responsible gambling practices from its approved members.

eCogra was the brainchild of both Mr Roger Raatgever (CEO of Microgaming™) and Mr John Anderson (CEO of 888.com). Rumour has it that both these gentleman were responsible for injecting the start up costs to enable eCogra to begin its operations.
